Eagle Watching

Nestled between majestic towering limestone bluffs and the mighty Mississippi and Illinois Rivers sits the little river town of Grafton, Illinois. 

Founded in 1836 by James Mason, Grafton is the oldest town in Jersey County and offers a variety of events throughout the year, making this river town a great destination to visit any time of the year.

Grafton has many year round attractions for visitors, shopping, great food, fine wine, hiking, bike trails, fishing, eagle watching, fall colors and spectacular views of the bluffs and rivers. 

If you like to drive you will enjoy the beautiful scenery as you motor up Route 100, officially known as the “meeting of the Great Rivers Scenic Byway” and voted one of the Seven Wonders of Illinois. If you want to pedal your bicycle to Grafton you can enjoy the beautiful ride along the Sam Vadalabene Bike Trail which runs alongside the Great River Road. 

If you want to travel to Grafton by boat you can dock at the Grafton Harbor marina in beautiful downtown Grafton. 

When you get here, you will find a variety of businesses from antique and craft shops, restaurants, fish stands, ice cream shops, wineries, local boat tours and rentals to Raging Rivers Water Park and the Grafton Riverside Flea Market.

Grafton offers a variety of lodging to meet your needs and desires; your choices include the historic Ruebel Hotel located in downtown Grafton or you can reside at one of the many beautiful guest houses or premier bed and breakfasts located throughout the town and nestled in among the bluffs. The Pere Marquette State Park and Lodge is located seven miles west of Grafton and offers camping, horseback riding trails, lodges and a variety of family programs. 

Grafton is host to many year round events such as the annual Tow Boat Festival (June), the Grafton Riverside Flea Market (4th weekend April through October), Pelicans arrive early April, The Art Festival (September), Fall Color watching (late September thru early November), The Rendezvous and The Bike Brigade (October), The Taste of Chocolate and The Festival of Lights (December), Eagle Watching (December through February), plus much more.
